Information and Communication Technologies: a transitional object?

Abstract

In psychoanalytical oriented approach, information and communication technologies have been considered, for a long time in the field of the education, as a magical object. Researchers often advance that computer and cyberspace are transitional objects. But, in spite of these propositions, we have to admit that ICT are far from being lived as transitional, by all the teachers and all the pupils. Moreover to think the computer, even connected to the Internet network, as a transitional object by definition, would certainly constitute a too fast reading of the Winnicott’s theory. This text will give the opportunity to rethink about these situations where the computer really takes place in a transitional space. The aim of this paper is to show, on one hand, on which conditions the ITC, in the professional sphere, can be played, on the other hand, how teachers can be capable of playing with these technologies in professional practices.
