A conversation with Freire and Vigotsky about remote teaching activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

The social distance, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has had significant impacts on the lives of people all over the world. Education was strongly affected due to the interruption of classroom lessons at several levels of education. The return to activities in educational institutions in Brazil was possible through remote education for some private schools and later for Universities. Most teachers had to adapt to the new conditions to teach classes through video conferencing applications, such as Google Meet and through the organization of teaching activities, on Google Classroom. This work narrates the research, carried out by a teacher, who is a professor at a federal university in Rio de Janeiro, about remote teaching, based on the theoretical assumptions of the Historical-Cultural approach (Paulo Freire and Lev Vigotsky). The object of the research is the teaching practice in the discipline for students/teachers of the professional master's course. The research approach is qualitative. The methodology is based on the reports of her experiences originating from her reflections and her actions about coping with adversities arising from remote work conditions, “in search of herself in the world”, of her reconstitution in this new world, which needed to be guided by dialogicity. The results show that the actions taken by the professor in the discussion of themes of the planning of the classes of the discipline, based on the permanent dialogue of the subjects, they were able to raise the conditions for the construction of knowledge and overcome the distance between subjects in remote education.
