Abstract
Wine historians have shown little interest for the French Revolution. They consider that this new page in history is not possibly related to the rich heritage of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and the old régime: it means the death of centuries-old institutions, such as the aristocracy, corporations or social organization and the end of traditional markets, with rather bleak prospects. And yet this statement has to be qualified: the revolutionary and Empire wars did boost the production, while operating lasting changes. It may suggest that it actually reached a climax.
