Abstract
In this community of the Nordeste of Brazil, kinship is recognized through the practice of blessing, daily act of allegiance to a person's elder kins and godparents, this allegiance leading to God. The anthropological analysis of the multiple dimensions of blessing, such as gestural, verbal, and temporal shows that it cannot be considered simple greetings, but as a daily ritual action that involves the whole society. Therefore, this practice is intrinsically linked to social organization: its shape is part of the construction of social spaces and times as it is built by them.
