This article is devoted to the study of Ibn Rushd through the work of Ibn Abī Uṣaybi‘a, a fundamental Arabic reference, who studied the most relevant aspects of the life and work of this philosopher. The article deals with the main aspects of Ibn Rushd’s carrier, from the beginning of his training in the hands of famous masters, to his achievements as a well known jurist and a recognised physician. Ibn Abī Uṣaybi‘a does not forget to remind us about the place Ibn Rushd occupied in the almohade hierarchy of his time, and therefore, of the links that he had with the people in power. These are the links that brought him disgrace, and according to the author, this disgrace was justified by the fact that Ibn Rushd exercised philosophy. The author finishes the biography of Ibn Rushd making a thorough account of his works in different fields of knowledge. In conclusion, a careful analysis of this text permits historians to fill the existing gaps in the life and work of Ibn Rushd.
