Abstract
This article examines the political significance of Gernot Böhme’s aesthetics of atmospheres, looking at his filiation with the critical theory of Walter Benjamin. Since Böhme relies on the latter’s analyses of aura, they should be mobilized to consider the effectiveness of the atmospheres which he himself proposes to explore. The study proposed by Benjamin of the phantasmagoria of the Paris of the nineteenth century, paradoxical aura, allows us to think about the sensitive dimension of the relations of power to which Böhme is interested and is a valuable tool for understanding the effects of urban aesthetics on the bodies of users.
