Urban, economic and political dynamics in Anatolia

Abstract

Since the Justice and Development Party has taken power in Turkey in November 2002, the urban spaces in the country are subject of an intensive movement of urban transformation. In this process, the city of Kayseri experienced the creation of an important coalition between economic and political sphere in order to transform and maintain the city in its status of metropolis. It is an important stake in the context of governmental reforms of decentralization that strengthen the local power of big municipalities. In the meantime, Kayseri does not stay outside of political tensions at the local and national level.
