Abstract
In January 2017, the final report of the Fos EPSEAL participatory study in environmental health was released. This study, which had both scientific and political aims, was carried out in towns near the industrial port area of Fos-sur-Mer. The results of the study received significant media attention. How did the local press report on the participation of citizens in the co-construction of scientific knowledge? What type of media framing emerged from this coverage? This article shows that by denying the existence or importance of lay knowledge, the press delegitimizes participation in science as well as in politics.
