Abstract
During the Reichsland period (1871-1918), the public architectural services operating in Alsace-Lorraine were evolving under the influence of the German model. In 1918-1919, the return of these territories to France was marked by the expulsion of most German service managers. The article examines the main features of the reorganisation of public architectural services in Alsace and Lorraine and the selection criteria for the new architects who run them during the interwar period, distinguishing between those belonging to the State, departments and municipalities.
