Abstract
The culture of commentary and the age of style in France have established, since the Nineteenth century, the basis of a form of stylistics that serves to interpret rather than to create stories, to understand a form-meaning rather than to arouse emotions. However, an alternative stylistics may be possible, where one would learn to understand the works otherwise than by interpreting them, where one would participate in their actualization in various ways : empathic participation, through the emotions felt and retranslated by the body ; controversial participation, reactivating passionate opinion for and against the author, canonical or not ; imitative participation, understanding the style of the other not by analyzing it but by making it one’s own ; regulated participation, acknowledging the function of techniques, a practical know-how specific to the art of writing.
