Abstract
West Turkey, in the provinces of -zce and Sakarya, the hazelnut season marks the hiring of many Kurdish seasonal workers. These hazelnut collectors, mostly young and deprived, are at the mercy of intermediaries who organise their recruitment. They are forced to live in unhealthy dwellings and, in the event of exhaustion, receive only a very low wage. They are affected both by the repressive policy in Turkey against the Kurdish minority and by competition on the international agri-food market.
