Abstract
The issue of “participatory museology” has been defined since the early 1970s in relation to the socio-political and identity challenges of recognizing “community audiences. Expressing itself through exhibitions that allowed a broad range of communication approaches in media settings, at the expense of “artistic mediation”, this concept was scarcely influenced by the “relational esthetic” developed in the 60s by contemporary art. This paper proposes a new approach to “participative museology” with an eye on contemporary creations whose exhibitions loosely follow the approaches of the performing arts, and play on the “visitor-audience-producer” relationship.
