Abstract
From plants to politics: about magical plants among the Wayana indians on the upper Maroni. The hemït form the class of magical plants among the Wayana. While analysing their origin, linked to the group’s ethnogenesis, and highlighting the disparities which this category includes, the author shows that these elements, besides their important function as social markers or as exchangeable commodities, have always played a major political role in the indigenous discourse, in keeping with the historical mutations experienced by Carib society.
