Abstract
This article reports the results of a comparative study concerning 9-year old dyslexic and non-dyslexic children. The aim of the study was to investigate children’s personality traits using the Five-Factor Model (F.F.M.). Data concerning dyslexic children was compared to those from a strictly matched broad-ranging sample and to those of loW versus high achievers. Teachers and mothers were given bipolar rating scales derived from the F.F.M. (E.B.M.C.F.). Bipolar rating scales shoW that the dyslexic children were rated less favourably than the non-dyslexic children both by mothers and teachers particularly on extraversion, conscientiousness, openness and emotional stability. Results also shoW that ratings differ between the rater: mothers versus teachers.
