“Lexical sensitivity” means: the emergence of a didactic concept of lexicon

Abstract

The concept of Word Consciousness refers to a positive disposition to learn words, alongside an interest and a curiosity towards vocabulary and lexical phenomena (Scott & Nagy, 2009). Word Consciousness, as an attitude, is an essential part of the lexical competence (Tremblay & Anctil, 2020), in addition to knowledge and skills regarding the use of words. This article aims to define Word Consciousness in the framework of a lexical competence characterization. Such a model show how Word Consciousness, as an attitude towards lexicon, fits into the current landscape of French didactics—and lexicon didactics in particular—, displaying the interaction between affect and learning.
