Abstract
This paper deals with the epistemological and methodological problems involved in the Town/University issues via the case of the German Imperial University of Strasbourg. This example leads to question the sense of history in the Town/University cohesion. The methodology chosen in this case prevents accumulating facts thanks to the intelligible reconstitution of the entirety. The epistemological points involve questioning about the existence of a field called Town/University and about our universities also being identity phenomenons. A close study of the sense of history within this cohabitation is appropriate for questioning the academic sovereignty of the universities and the urban and university autonomy of the town. For the German founders of sociology, the sense of history cannot be separated from the mentioned work, which was the expression of a historical conscience of the creator’s mind.
