Abstract
This article focuses on an ethnographic study of direct observations in an after-school centre to discuss the different forms of practices employed by children or youth workers under the title of “play”. After presenting the ethnographic approach adopted and the setting, the first, part one unravels the jumble of the frames that govern the spaces and extra-curricular periods based on the pattern of children and youth worker involvement. Part two continues the analysis by describing how this pattern supports of an educational formalisation to varying degrees of play activities. Thus, the range of play activities shows how signs of an educational form developed by the youth workers are valued and prioritised in conjunction with fewer recreational activities, decided by the children.
