Abstract
This essay focuses on the historiography of Italian Jewish participation in the Risorgimento. It aims to provide an updated view on the ongoing research, and to illustrate the themes that have been analyzed up to now and those still waiting to be studied. In the first part, historiographic production from the Sixties to the Nineties has been explored. It was a period during which there was a lack of interest on the part of historians to study Italian Jewish history of the 19th Century, because their priority was to reconstruct the dynamics that lead to the Italian racial laws and to the Shoah. In the second part the shift that happened during the Nineties, that marked the beginning of a new chapter has been analyzed. Thanks to the stimulus created by recent historiography on the Risorgimento, a new generation of historians has examined the various aspects of the events of Italian Jews’ during the Nineteenth century, delving into important and unexplored matters, regarding the inner and external paths of the Italian Jewish Communities during the era of emancipation.
