Do you learn to read only once

Abstract

Should you first learn to read in mother tongue or foreign language? Jean Duverger reported on the experience of bilingual classes in Spain. It focuses less on teachers than on children whose strategies are ‘original and personal’. If the demands of their surroundings are made in both languages at the same time, the student child will transfer behaviour from one language to the other at all times. Thus, the priority of one or other language for reading learning is a false problem. You can only learn to read once.
