Abstract
The long thinking out lexicography in Québec since more than a century enables to make the following account. From 1880 to 1960 inclination for purism, "standardism", correction of linguistic fault and changing anglicisms were the main trends. During the next period (1960-1987), in the wake of dialectological works, of amateurish compilations and of true lexicographical productions, the necessity of making a Québec French language dictionary of its own based on systematic history-descriptive researches comes out. After the period of cleaning a language cross-breeded with English, followed by another one centered on describing this language, the Québec lexicographers community is ready for entering into a new era, a stage of comparing their own language with that of the French-speaking world.
