Abstract
this article is part of my teaching of master’s knowledge in social history defended by the PUC/SP in 2018, with the title of Mr Adriano Hypolito in the trace of violence in Nova Iguaçu. The aim here is to analyse the work of this Catholic Bispo in the town of Nova Iguaçu, which is located in the Baixada Fluminense region of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The sources of this work will be exemplary of the diocesan newspaper A Folha and interviews awarded by Don Adriano. The methodology used will be the analysis of sources in a dialogical perspective between the social context of their production and scientific work on the Catholic Church, Baixada Fluminense and Brazil. This work is justified by the proposed reflection on the role of religiosity in Brazilian society at a time when many conservative ideas gain strength in the country.
