Is the secular state really what made it possible to put an end to the wars between Catholic and Protestant to the xvie and Xvii centuries and thus to the conflicts fuelled by religion? On the contrary, history shows that, in a process unveiled by René Girard, secularisation transformed Christianity into a scapegoat to impose its own intrangeance by claiming the monopoly of rationality. It is this lies that provokes today the fundamentalist reactions. It is no less religion that is needed now, but the true religion: that of the non-violent and misericordious God.
