Abstract

Nothing seemed to be that the capetian dynasty was so long-lasting, keeping it at the head of the Kingdom from 987 to 1328. Royal, initially elective, becomes hereditary and the King is gradually being recognised throughout the Kingdom. The personalities of these monarchs are poorly known, but they have established themselves by the success of their conquest, the management of a royal domain at the forefront of economic and intellectual progress, and the religious anchoring of their actions. Sacred and healing rois, supported by the network of whites and monasteries, feel accountable to God for the salvage of their people. To govern their Kingdom is therefore to purify it, be it Saint Louis, canonised in 1297, or Philippe le Bel and his successors, major builders of the nascent State. Far from the ideas received, this book gives the floor to the sources and presents the latest advances in medieval history research to draw the originality of the time of the Capetians who, from the King of the Francs, have become king of France.
