Abstract
contribution to a website Interview with Eric Verdeil by Sandra Elouarghi and Maïna Marjany — On 4 August a new tragedy hit Lebanon. A double explosion, on an unprecedented scale in the country’s history, left over 200 dead and almost 6 500 injured. This tragedy comes on top of an already catastrophic socio-economic situation. Severely handicapped by the Coronavirus pandemic, which deprives it of tourism, the Lebanese economy was already among the worst in the world. The political context, even before the explosion, was particularly delicate. How can the so deteriorating economic situation in Lebanon be explained? What will be the consequences of this crisis on the future of this country? Éric Verdeil, Professor at Sciences Po, geograph and specialist in the Middle East, decrypt for Emilile the Lebanese chaos.
