Abstract
The aim of this study was to analyse the explanatory styles of professional football coaches at the end of the competition matches. 4366 statements were collected in the press from 29 league days, which relate to the dimensions of the theory of explanatory styles and aspects such as outcome, place, time of season and category. The results indicate significant differences in the three dimensions of the explanatory guidelines in some of the aspects analysed. The importance of coaches’ explanatory styles in influencing the performance of the team was discussed, as well as the possible difference in attributions depending on the analysis and the possibilities for psychological counselling to coaches for improved performance evaluation and feedback to athletes.
