Abstract
`titrebSchooling of immigrant children in Spain`/titrebIn the first part of this article we present the evolution of Spanish authorities towards cultural diversity in schools, in the context of a marked increase in the number of immigrant families in Spain in the last decade. This shows how models based on exclusion and segregation have been replaced by programmes focusing on the integration of immigrant children, leading to programmes providing intercultural education. The current tendency is to develop intercultural education through educational projects which respect cultural pluralism and embrace the whole school`np pagenum="014"/b population. In a second part, we examine questions and issued of relations between schools and immigrant parents in the context of the necessity of involving parents in this process. This provides empirical findings concerning support for parents with language problems and how stronger family-school communication has been reinforced.
