Abstract
The article describes, from the perspective of the critical theory of sport, social aspects of different contemporary sports practices such as running, walking or some types of cycling. The article first reviews supposed positive values attributed to sport, including social integration, ability to relax, and opportunities for self-improvement. These essential points of view are then analyzed, taking into account the commodification of sport, its political use and its role as a buffer of criticism and social commitment. The authors overall conclusions shed a negative light on the practice of sports. To illustrate the above trends, the text draws on arguments from different authors in the scope of human and social sciences. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
