Uspješnost fonetske korekcije izgovora talijanskih vokala /ɔ/, /o/, /ɛ/ i /e/ na primjeru učenika čiji je materinski jezik hrvatski

Abstract

During the process of second language acquisition pronunciation planning is often neglected. Unfortunately, not even contemporary methodics has been able to offer any kind of solution to this problem. Phonetic speech correction using the verbo-tonal method of Petar Guberina is an efficient and relatively quick way of improving speech quality, both in the foreign as well as in the mother tongue. However, the verbo-tonal method requires the use of special electro-acoustic equipment, which is unavailable to the vast majority of educational institutions. This research paper attempts to show that it is possible to improve the pronunciation of the second language quickly precisely by using the verbo-tonal method. In order to demonstrate the practical use of this method, the paper minutely portrays ten phonetic correction sessions of Italian vowels /ɔ/, /o/, /ɛ/ i /e/, conducted on one particular examinee, a native speaker of Croatian. After these ten sessions target vowels extracted from words uttered by the examinee have been subjected to acoustic analysis, which indicates certain speech improvements. Since the perceptive test has yielded much better results than the acoustic analysis, it is possible to conclude that the human ear functions as a complex measuring instrument which, unlike the computer, has the ability to make exact evaluations by taking into consideration the whole rather than its fragments.
