Abstract
Summary Urban Parks play a crucial role in citizens’ quality of life; to this end, some city administrations have intervened their parks, which has not been free from protests from communities that reject such interventions. This article contains a case study, the Japan Park in Bogotá, as an emblematic case for some of the communities opposing the transformations of some parks in the city. Information from interviews, social media messages and communications from the city administration was collected and analysed to try to understand the problem. The study identifies, as a possible explanation for tensions, poor management of projects by not promoting adequate participation. There are recommendations that can help prevent such future tensions in urban transformation projects.
