The silhouette of the human

Abstract

Naturalism? 'br/Ben what is the old philosophical thesis which argues that nature embraces everything that exists about each of us? It now takes the form of a powerful common practice, created by the convergence of research, philosophical or scientific programmes (such as cognitive sciences, neurosciences, evolutionary biology, genetics), which offer theoretical answers and proposals for action — such as autism or early school leaving, dyslexia or psychopathy, social persuasion or public policies, cultural shock or sustainable development, penal or obesity regimes, social inequalities or risk perception, racism or crimes against humanity. All these areas where decisions need to be taken, legislation, remedies, administration and research should be guided by br/ECB, which in principle seemed to escape “scientific” management, as it was based on people-to-people relations, authority, trust, deliberation and intimate conviction, which seems to be within the reach of hardware systems, “smart” optimisers. There is a greater urgency to measure the relationship between technological naturalisationand naturalism developed by science and philosophical analysis than humanoid technologies (artificial intelligence; robotics...) profoundly alters both the conditions of the decision and its purpose. Br/bRares are those who punish themselves, and the intellectual means, to see as closely as possible, beyond a simplistic rejection, this naturalistic approach which, while trying to rethink the silhouette of humans, sometimes goes so far as to purport to govern our world. This is the ambition of this unique philosophical survey — a kind of ‘stock-taking and outlook’ of naturalism and advocacy for critical use.
