This article identifies the different meanings of gender-based violence for women, whether or not they have been assaulted, living in a community of returnees in northern Guatemala and organised in ‘Mama Maquín’. We are looking to show the Community standards and requirements that can be used as grounds for a shortage of complaints. We believe that the acceptance by women themselves of the attacks they suffer makes it difficult to disappear gender-based violence within society.
