Memories from Costa Rica. Imaginaries on postcards

Abstract

In order to reflect on the possibility that the images of the past can find explanations on how the world represented by its producers was perceived or by the image readers who then saw them, the aim of this text is to bring the Costa Rican cards published between 1900 and 1920 closer to the case, by analysing some of them in time to show that they were enclosing visual speeches that would be imposed as social imaginaries. The existence of publications for which the reason is the collection of postcards does not ensure that all possible cognitive benefits offered on postcards are achieved. It is very important to create collections of this cultural artefact, but it is not possible to stop it. It is necessary to carry out iconological reading exercises to extract the wealth contained in this type of dress.
