In 1913 Henri Massis and Alfred Tarde conducted a survey on the state of mind of the schools they presented under the pseudonym Agathon to the public under the title: The young people of today. Michel Winock believes in the responses to this survey to perceive the spirit of a generation, “the Agathon generation.” Indeed, what was most significant in this survey was the use of the concept of generation. This generation, which was born around 1890, seemed above all to define itself.
