Formal and informal library training in formal and informal library training: It permanences and workshops at the Bpi

Abstract

The aim of this study is to take stock of the experience of IT training in the Bpi between October 2012 and March 2013: the IT workshops, which are genuine and more formalised collective training sessions, take place in a dedicated space. The methodology is based on semi-directive observations and interviews. The main results are the following• The “IT Declics” permanence attracted three types of request: troubleshooting, training, but also shared concern. Permanence was a place of interaction and speech circulation that allowed some users to build the sense of internet practice, leaving less to pessimistic and sometimes very dark representations of the extension of the network.• IT workshops, where the IT maker offered training sessions, enabled some users to integrate into a base of common practices, from which they felt excluded, and thus to find an esteem of self-esteem. But it was also possible to stabilise knowledge, stop “DIY” and build more structured knowledge.• These learning places were very flexible training places used by users to reduce a sense of incompetence in IT. The impression of not mastering this tool is shared to varying degrees by these users. Some have defensive postures because they feel threatened by digital transformations. Others have exploratory postures, through which they seek to make their honey the new resources available.
