Model of change stadiums: compatibility with biographical stories of women suffering from domestic violence

Abstract

The objective is to analyse the adjustment of the experiences of women who suffer violence inflicted by their partners or ex-partners to the PROCHASKA and Di Clemente Change or Transteoretic Model. Qualitative interpretative research involving 35 women who suffer gender-based violence, detected in primary care, recognises their situation (perceived mistreatment). This is a multi-centre study carried out in six urban health centres in Malaga. The interviewing biograph technique, which is audiographic and transcribed, is used, on which content analysis is carried out according to stages of the Transteoretic Model. ATLAS-TI 5.0 is used for coding. The most relevant phases are predictive, maintenance and completion, with little presence of the action phases. The main characteristics of each phase are blindness and inexplicability in the forecast; analysis of pros and cons in foresight; difficulty in decision-making at the action stages; suffering and struggle to move forward in the maintenance phase and determination and analytical capacity in the completion phase. Keys for intervention are provided according to the stage of the process.
