Abstract
`titrebEnsuring a brother’s survival...`/titreb The author proposes to consider the working through of the affects of sisterly hate following an early infantile trauma in the life of a woman patient. These affects, which were linked to her relation with a psychically impaired brother, were re-evoked during the course of treatment. Recurring experiences of murder, rage and destructivity were worked through, leading to the progressive transformation of the repetition compulsion, thanks to a process of self-examination and working-through. Hate thus progressively gave way to a much more tolerable and constructive form of autoerotic rivalry.
