Abstract
In the material of the Croatian literary language, the author points to the elements of distinguishing phraseological variants from synonyms and cites the types of brewing on the phonetic, morphological, word-educational, synstactic and lexical planes. Then he dwells on the question of limited synonymy in connection with the collocation of phraseologicalism. In contrasting study of the phraseology of Russian and Croatian literary languages, many parallel synonymic series with greater or less convergence of form and content are found. Members of synonymic series refer to Slavic or borrowed phraseology, and next to them each of the two languages created new members.
