‘Ein höherer Spaß’ or God’s meaning of humour? God and writing ‘medieval’ in L’Élu (1951) by Thomas Mann

The Middle Ages is our childhood to which we always have to come back to make an anamnesis. Umberto Eco, Apostille, at the ‘Nom de la Rose’ ‘I love me like a little fu’, wrote on 1 June 1948 Thomas Mann, who was busy with a revival of Pope Gregoire’s famous legend, who, following extreme contrition, became one of the biggest saints in Rome, with his old friend and camarade Hermann Hesse.
