Abstract

An analysis based on four verbs (‘appeler’, ‘désigner’, ‘nommer’, and ‘dénommer’) in French monolingual dictionaries `/titreb This article is about the ways in which denomination is represented in some French dictionaries. It presents the evolution of four verbal articles (appeler, nommer, dénommer, désigner) in a range of dictionaries with the aim of understanding how their current quasi synonymy is formed. These four verbs, backed by their lexical family, are then analyzed in terms of their denominational characteristics and distinguished from each other by a series of specific features.
