Abstract
Carlos Pradal was an artist with deep Spanish roots, but with an art of avant-garde influences. His life and work are associated with the Spanish exile in France. Recognized in Toulouse as the prime representative of the Spanish culture in this city, and known in the Parisian artistic circles as one of the Spanish artists of the School of Paris, he used the art of painting to seek for his identity, synthesizing two aspects that had great value for an artist in previous movements: on the one hand, the intention of capturing everything at once, as if he worked without looking for fear of losing the most relevant moment; and, on the other hand, the use of such purged and contrasted touches of light when creating his works. Thanks to this deepening in illumination contrasts, more than in the appearance of colours, he found his own voice in painting, his inner tempo, that is, his style.
