Principles of a psycho-forenological device ‘to help carers’

Abstract

National audience. Based on the finding of caregivers’ misuse, psychological support structures offered to them, the authors propose a group psycho enological device ‘to help caregivers’. The scheme is based on two activities carried out between 1999 and 2004 at the University of Montpelllier 3. Based on the fact that the reality of the context of the ‘carer/carer’ relationship ultimately weighs more than the mental determinism which it restarts, the system will incorporate a ‘training’ component which will mobilise the psychological level of the carers’ representations to deal with the psychological dynamics of the objectivation of the disorders of the assisted persons in terms of their psychotraumatic impact on those carers. Based on the fact that carers spontaneously make use of physical stress control strategies and on the importance of taking into account the intersubjective dimension, the system anchors its psychotherapeutic action in the corporality dimension, which is the origin of the human relationship. It will then mobilise the ‘presentation’ level in a section based on ‘feel’ and made up of bodies that express corporality, in particular psychodramatic ones. This system of psychanalytic and environmental inspiration makes it possible to design a therapeutic intervention capable of transforming, for the carer, the traumatic quality of the meeting with the sick person into a confident opening to the alterity now experienced as the irductible dimension of everyone, including the patient. It offers a means of freeing itself from the defence mechanisms mobilised by the commonly offered and misused aid schemes.
