Analysis of mobility patterns by using post-lockdown data for the hypercentre of the city of Quito

Abstract

This project relates to mobility in the city of Quito has been dramatically disrupted by the COVID-19 crisis. Quarantine and its derivatives such as confinement, teleworking and mobility restrictions have had multiple impacts in all areas, such as on daily mobility. This project aims to analyse the mobility parameters by collecting data for the hypercentre of the city of Quito. The research focused on measuring mobility in the hypercentre of the city of Quito, using the quantitative method. The data were collected with a GPS system based on Arduino to collect information on speed, number of stops and time travelled. The data platform is interconnected by 100 %, receiving the data from the test vehicle, for the 1.4 km journey, at the times chosen, the mobility parameters are 8 ´18”, with 15 stops and a maximum speed of 21.9 km/h. Conclusion: The mobility patterns of the Quito hypercentre have now decreased by 20.4 % compared to the pre-pandemic period, but congestion levels at certain points are similar to previous periods.
