Abstract
The creative leisure industry, driven by the ‘home event’, benefits from a vision that takes place in contexts such as the ecological movement, open-source software and artistic works distributed over the internet without intermediary. This article shows that the growing industry in Quebec is dominated by two colosses, DeSerres, a centenary institution, and a new strong competitor, the American giant Michaels. There is still room for many small shops. However, in order to benefit from this market, where an ageing population has time and a budget to devote to its artists’ dreams, these competitors need to clearly define their scope of action and know how to reinvent themselves.
