Thematic number “The meaning of urban forms” Full text at: http://www.cairn.info/revue-espaces-et-societes-2005-4-page-87.htm national audience Urban forms reflect representations characterised by interference between socio-political and architectural models such as, for example, the city of Algiers rich in depicting the legacy of the colonial past, state production (monuments, urban public spaces) and private urban spatial forms (mosques, homes, tourist complexes). The different ideological currents, to which architectural achievements are linked, would shape urban forms such as, for example, the rejection of the monument, which shows an undeniable socio-political impact and a certain symbolic burden.
