Abstract
Current national debates on the family concept triggered this article, which highlighted the Catholic camp, specifically from the Catholic weekly newspaper O São Paulo JOSP, the official body of Archidiocese paulistana, the largest in Brazil. Research identified the conversions and differences in ideological positions which dealt with the concept of family on the basis of understanding and interpretation of JOSP.The documentary source was analysed from two separate time cuttings, that of the subjects vetoed by the prior censorship of the military dictatorship in the 1970s and the weekly publications in 2015, when the topic became emerging on the national agenda. Differences have been identified between the topics discussed and subject discourses in relation to ganery relations, homoaffective marriage and adoption, among others. However, we identify the same perspective with regard to the defence of the so-called traditional family composition.
