Abstract
this book brings together political scientists, diplomats, lawyers, historians and philosophers of different nationalities to highlight the reality of war today at a time when violence is developing in multiple forms: civil wars, ethnic cleansing, genocide, terrorism. In summary of their exchanges: the question of the morality of the use of force and the timeliness of the Christian doctrine of just war, particularly in the context of interventions in Kosovo and Iraq; the concept of counter-terrorism and its place in both history and war; ambiguities linked to the concept of legitimacy in particular of the UN and international justice. Finally, proposals are made to establish an ethics, a policy and provisional institutions for times of crisis.
