Abstract

International audience The dedicatory inscription of Amenhotep I on his great southern gate at Karnak contains an ambiguous passage which has been generally interpreted as the gate’s name: sqA-Htp(w) “the one which raises the offerings”. Actually, it seems that, instead of naming the gate, this passage had designated one of the functions of the building that is: to house a pedestal as well as being a shelter to receive the portable processional bark of Amun. According to this new interpretation, we would thus deal with a « resting pedestal (sqA-Htp) (for the bark) ».
