Abstract

This essay explores James Baldwin’s representation of black and white masculinities in his short story “Going to Meet the Man” whose lynching scene emblematizes the traumatic imprint of racial and sexual violence on American culture and history. The text is analyzed through African American Modernism and psychoanalysis since both, as perspective and practice, question perception, space and reality.
