Abstract
In 2008, Greenland achieved to get a strengthened autonomy. A constitutional process and some prospects to hold a referendum do bring closer a possible future independance. Nuuk, the county town, searching for both centrality and geographic legitimacy, has then to give credibility to a potential capital city status. Since a decade, elected representatives, researchers and town planners attempt to consider a myriad of matters. How shall they adapt to meet new postcolonial circumstances and conciliate with arctic fantasy and Inuits’ vernacular traditions ? Will it be possible to reconcile a multicultural city with the spirit of former coastal communities ? Research on urban marketing documents and constantly evolving urban projects as well as interviews made in 2018 suggest answers to these questions and allow the identification of singular urbanistic patterns.
