Where these data come from
Cataloguer, search for maps. The geographical referencing in question

Abstract

This article is devoted to the methods of recording and exploiting the geographical referencing data of maps and plans in libraries’ catalogues. After taking stock of the practices that follow the standard and the difficulties in their implementation, the article presents the possibilities offered by the new tools for geographical information and geo-referencing through a few examples. There is no need for these tools to perform in a way that is not in line with the standard. Practices are changing quite quickly and obviously the cartoon is at a turning point in its history. However, several years are still needed to assess with sufficient backwards the results offered by rapidly evolving tools themselves.
